Seniors! As part of YHS Band tradition, we would like to honor you in the following ways:
- Senior Bio featured in our Spring Concert program – due Monday 5/8 (see attached)
- Senior Will featured in our YHS Band Yearbook – due Monday 5/8 (see attached)
- Senior dinner at Little Sorrento’s – Monday 5/15 (our concert day) at 4:30pm, more info TBD
Concert Band parents, we have had to make a few changes regarding our Hershey festival trip. Our adjudication will now take place at YHS. The date is the same, Saturday, May 20th 2023. Please note the new information attached.
Each year, the YHS Band participates in the town of Yorktown Memorial Day Parade. This is our most public event of the year and is an important service for our Yorktown community. All YHS Band students are required to participate. Contact me with questions. FYI: students will wear their YHS Band polo, long black pants (please no yoga pants, sweat pants, or leggings) and black shoes.
After our parade performance, all YHS Band students are invited to the 18th annual YHS Band Memorial Day BBQ, location TBD. A sign-up sheet and information on how to contribute food for this event will be available in the coming weeks.
The First Nighters are excited to invite our Performing Arts seniors to an afternoon picnic in Downing Park. Details below.
The YHS Band has been asked to perform at the 2023 YHS Graduation. Students of the 2023-2024 Wind Ensemble are asked to participate. (If you are not in next year’s WE, but are a sibling of a graduating senior and would like to save your family a ticket, you are also welcome to join us!)
The 2023 graduates, and our entire learning community, truly appreciate your time and talents!
Who: Students in the ’23-‘24 Wind Ensemble and/or siblings of graduating seniors.
What: Provide graduation music for the seniors of YHS!!
Date: Saturday, June 24, 2023
Place: YHS Football Stadium
Time: Arrive at the YHS band room by 9:00 AM. Ceremony is at 10:00AM
Attire: Please dress “nicely” (no jeans, t-shirts, or sneakers).
Bring: Your music, your instrument and water.
Students who perform at the graduation are eligible for 3 community service hours.

This year’s piano NYSSMA festival is being held at YHS (!) Friday 6/9 and Saturday 6/10. Application and info are attached. **Jazz Band Students please note: Friday June 9th is our Relay for Life performance. If you are planning to do Piano NYSSMA, you will need to request a Saturday June 10th time**

On Wednesday, April 26th the YCSD Band Program will host our 8th Annual District Band Concert from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the YHS Gym. All band students grades 5-12 will participate.
Our goal is to create a successful and inspiring experience for our YCSD band students and their families; fostering positive relationships between all levels, and allowing our youngest band students and their parents to see the full progression of our band program.
Parent and student volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. Look for an e-mail in the coming weeks with how you can help.
Auditions for the 2023-2024 Wind Ensemble will take place at the end of April. The Wind Ensemble audition information sheet/permission slip is attached and is also available in the band room.
As mentioned at our rehearsal, in class, and via e-mail, there are 2 rehearsal dates in April that need to be moved. Please fill out this form to help us choose new rehearsal dates. Please be accommodating with your schedule – rescheduling these rehearsals is important to the success of our Spring Concert.
Rehearsal this week is Thursday 3/23 from 6:50-8:30. Please practice and prepare the HW assignment posted on Dashboard.
Offered weekly and hosted by our junior and senior band members (thank you!). Students who lead or attend a session receive 1 point of extra credit. Sessions are held period 9, unless noted otherwise. Ms. Kluga is also always available for help by appointment.
This week, in preparation for our upcoming Washington DC Festival trip (only 14 rehearsals left!), Wind Ensemble students will spend time together studying their music.
