JAZZ BAND AUDITIONS

Auditions will take place this Wednesday 9/21 from 1:35 – 3:00. Requirements and sign-ups are available in the Band room.  Weekly rehearsals will begin Thursday 9/29, 6:50-8:30pm.  Returning Jazz Band students do not need to audition, but are required to attend the meeting at 1:35 on 9/21.

GUIDED PRACTICE

Offered weekly and hosted by our junior and senior band members (thank you!). Students who lead or attend a session receive 1 point of extra credit. Sessions are held period 9, unless noted otherwise. Ms. Kluga is also always available for help by appointment.

EVENTS THIS WEEK

Thursday 9/8: Pep Band Rehearsal – 1:45-3:15pm in the Band Room

Bring your instrument and charged cell phone. Music and snacks will be provided. Late buses are available at 3:30. Let’s get ready for our first Varsity Football Pep Band performance of the season!  To help us sound our best please join us for this rehearsal – where we will play fun pop music, enjoy snacks (because Band = Food), and enjoy time together.  

Friday 9/9: Pep Band Performance – Report at 5:45pm in the Band Room

Bring yourinstrument and charged cell phone. Music and Snacks will be provided. The football game will run from 7-10:00pm

Friday 9/9: Reserve your free tickets for the “President’s Own” Marine Band Concert

Our country’s premier military band is touring the Northeast! A fantastic and free opportunity to hear this world-class group! Concert is Saturday 10/9, 3-5pm at John Jay HS in Hopewell Junction, NY. Ms. Kluga is planning to attend with her family – she hopes to see you and your family there! Reserve your free tickets here.

JAZZ BAND REHEARSAL

Our next rehearsal is Thursday 5/12 from 6:50-8:30. Your homework, professional recordings, and sheet music are posted on Dashboard. This is our last regularly scheduled rehearsal of the year (…sniff, I have loved our time together!!)…and the last before our concert!

**Jazz Band Tech Rehearsal is Monday 5/16 from 1:35-3:00**

SPRING CONCERT WED. 5/18

Our Spring Concert will take place on Wednesday, 5/18 at 7:00pm in the YHS Auditorium. Your students and I look forward to performing for you!

  • Students will need to arrive early to warm up.  Please have your student at YHS promptly by 6:30pm.
  • Jazz Band Students need to be in the auditorium with instruments assembled and ready to play by 6:00pm.

CONCERT DRESS

A reminder of our concert dress requirements is listed below. We call it “Concert Black.”

Ladies:

·       Black dress pants or long black skirt. Ladies, long means that your skirt falls below the knee.  (no black jeans/jeggings/tights/yoga pants)

·       Black Blouse– longish sleeves (no sleeveless shirts or spaghetti straps)

·       Black Dress Shoes

·       Jazz Band students will also wear a white tie

Gentlemen:

·       Black Dress Pants (no black jeans/track pants/sweat pants)

·       Black, Button-Down, Long Sleeved Shirt

·       Black Socks and black dress shoes

·       Jazz Band students will also wear a white tie

RECEPTION – PARENT HELP NEEDED

To celebrate our student’s performance, and our senior’s final concert, we will host a reception in the cafeteria.  Parent donations and help are needed – please look for an e-mail from parent organizer Sarah Gambetta for information on how you can help.
