Band students have been invited to help cheer on our Varsity Football team as they face off against Lakeland. Instrument PPE will be used and social distancing will be observed. Snacks will be provided.
WHO: All YHS Band Students are invited
WHEN: Friday 3/26. Report to the band room by 6:00pm. Be on time. The game should be over by 9:30.
WHERE: Murphy Field (YHS Turf Field)
WEAR: If you have a band hoodie or other apparel please wear it.
BRING: Your instrument and your charged cell phone (we will be using Flip Folder App)

On Tuesday 3/9, Master Sergeant Johnson, a trombone player with the “President’s Own” Marine Band presented a clinic titled Becoming a Better Musician During a Pandemic. Students learned strategies for staying motivated, facing anxiety, and the simple yet powerful act of saying “today I will work to get better at my instrument.” MSgt Johnson also shared personal stories and answered questions. We are very thankful to the Marine Band for this opportunity!

Learn from the New York Philharmonic double reed sections at the Montclair State University Double Reed Day! The day will feature masterclasses, panel discussions, repair workshops, reed class, and more. For more details about the events please see the flyer below.
As part of our next unit, all band students are learning a NYSSMA solo. In addition to the musical opportunity this study provides, if students are interested in participating in NYSSMA or auditioning for Wind Ensemble, they will have the necessary tools to do so.
NYSSMA information was reviewed this week in class, is available on Dashboard, and is attached. The on-line sign-up form is due Monday 3/8 and can be found here.
Students are able to receive honors credit for Concert Band or Wind Ensemble by earning a score of 95 or above on a level 6 solo/ensemble, or a score of 97 or above on a level 5 solo/ensemble.
Auditions for the 2021-2022 Wind Ensemble will take place at the end of April. Students wishing to audition should review the audition information sheet (attached) with you. This form is due Monday 3/8.
On Tuesday 3/9, Master Sergeant Johnson, a trombone player with the “President’s Own” Marine Band will present a clinic, via zoom, to our Wind Ensemble students (period 8). The clinic is part of the band’s educational outreach campaign and is titled Becoming a Better Musician During a Pandemic. Interested Concert Band students are also welcome to attend, e-mail Ms. Kluga for more information. We are thrilled to have this opportunity!
